Google Art Project launches in India

Art lovers rejoice. Google has launched its Art Project in India. Google's Art Project gives users an online platform to check out the high-resolution images of artworks housed in the initiative's partner museums. Delhi-based National Gallery of Modern Art and National Museum have partnered with Google in its Art Project campaign.

With Google Art Project, users can virtually walk through museums' galleries, and check out contextual information provided about the artworks. Users can also compile data and create and share their own collection online, via Google's social networking site Google+. Google's walk-through feature is powered by Google's Street Viewtechnology. Google's Art Project currently features 30,000 artworks from 6,000 artists across the globe.

“The platform gives you a fun and unique way to interact with art and we hope this inspires you to visit the real thing. Users all over the world can now interact with art in a way that was never possible before - brush level strokes of paintings, virtual tour of the museums and a feature that allows you to create your own collection to share with your friends and family,” says Google in a blog post.

Google is promoting its Art Project on its home page as well. The home page features tiled images of different artworks. Clicking on the images, users are directed to Google's dedicated website for Art Project – www.googleartproject.com

In the era of Internet, everything is going virtual, whether it is shopping or banking. Inclusion of art is certainly welcome move.
